Whenever I clicked a link from the search results it would bring me to a totally unrelated site. Clicking on many links and non is for what I searched for. I haven't seen report of google search result problem today.

I do not have the problem if I use Bing for the search.

I do not think there is virus on my computer. Or did Microsoft implanted one to force me to use their search engine? Legally it's unlikely.

Actually it does sound exactly like a virus...there is one that specifically that will hijack your google searches, and bring you to specific websites no matter what you are searching for.  It happened to me, how I have no idea.  I didnt have the patience to do any troubleshooting, so I just reformatted my computer and when I was back up, the problem was resolved.

There was actually a post about this a few months ago that has more detail about it....if you do a search you might find it. Lots of helpful tips and info in that thread.

ETA: Here it is: http://independentgi... +search +virus

Definitely sounds like a case of hijacking by either spyware or a virus. Download Spybot Search and Destroy. Run it and let it do its magic.

Third that advice (you're infected). Furthermore, I'd download malwarebytes freeware version and run it before installing spybot. Malwarebytes is used by many techs as it's probably one of the most effective tools for safely removing virii and trojans out there. I used it this past weekend to disinfect a friend's machine. It found and removed 12 items that his anti-virus (Trend-Micro) had missed. I also use Kaspersky's free virus remover. The combo of the two catches and safely removes virtually anything out in the wild. What Kaspersky detects but can't remove automatically it links to on it's page where detailed instructions on removal are given. This is because unfortunately, some infections will propagate themselves again even after removal. These type of infections often require booting into "safe mode" and temporarily disabling "windows restore" to completely get rid of them.

I used to be a big fan of spybot search and destroy, but then I began reading on some of the tech sites I frequent, that it was now mining and sending out info to advertisers to pay for itself. Not exactly what I'm interested in installing on my machine, IMHO.

I hope this helps

Ciao

Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware both run in safe mode to eliminate the viruses always works for me. Both have free versions. You definitely have something! Good luck.

Sorry to disappoint you lol but this is actually a trojan, which does also affect mac computers.

A quick google search for google redirect virus / trojan brings up a lot of people freaking out that this is happening to them on their macs and trying to find a way to make it stop.

No, but 'escort.dll' is a funny coincidence.

FunMoods is something you (or someone else that uses your computer) downloaded, or it may have been bundled with something else you downloaded and you didn't uncheck the box that asks if you want to install the Fun Moods toolbar.

It can happen to anyone when you get too click happy with the Next button during an install. Live and learn.
